Use the new WWF footprint calculator to track your impact

The slogan ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ has now been around for more than four decades, but do these actions go far enough?

We all know we should be living more sustainably – but how? The reality is, aside from the three Rs, taking steps to reduce our impact can be tricky to navigate.

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has created a UK-based Environmental Footprint Calculator which you can use to measure your own impact.

Using the answers you provide to a short series of questions relating to your food, travel, home and other stuff, the calculator will show you your carbon footprint in tonnes and provide a break-down summary. The average carbon impact per person in the UK is 9.5 tonnes.

You can also see the total carbon footprint in your local area.

Once you know your footprint, you can use the WWF ‘My Footprint App’ to participate in challenges and help you make small changes in your lifestyle to reduce your impact. The app can be downloaded from both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
